Demonstration in Solidarity with Palestine

Yesterday a demonstration was staged in Valletta city, in solidarity with the Palestinian people and against the aggression of the Israeli air strikes. A Press Release was signed by Moviment Graffitti, Peace Lab, General Workers Union, Zminijietna, Third World Group, Kopin and Koperattiva Kummerc Gust which condemned both Hamas and the Israeli Government for the the violence but also stated that the excessive use of force by the Israeli Air Force is not justified. The PLO representative to Malta, also attended the protest despite Fatah's claims that Hamas is totally responsible for this bloodshed.

Maltese citizens walked in Valletta alongside the local Palestinian community to show their solidarity with the civilians who are trapped in Gaza who live without the necessary facilities due to Israel's blockade. Now they are also living with the constant threat of death as Israeli air strikes are pounding heavily on the area including on civilian targets such as the University and the underground tunnels which are used to smuggle food and supplies from Egypt. The UN has called on Israel for restraint but it has as usual ignored the international body. Until now about 5 Israelis and 360 Palestinians were killed.
