Ir-Realta' Banned From University

in

The Realta' Collective would like to announce that its critical and satirical newspaper Ir-Realta' has been banned from University by a direct order from the Rector. This information has arrived to the Collective by an informal meeting with the KSU President Karl Grech. He announced to the editor that the newspaper has been banned by a direct order from the Rector due to the discrimination against women incited by the artistic prose of Alex Vella Gera called Li Tkisser Sewwi. The story is about a man, the narrator, who uses women as sexual objects while being completely ignorant about love. The narrator uses vulgar and crude language so as to help the reader rto help the reader to realise how much of an ignorant brute he is. It is an ironic piece of art which has a direct message, against the discrimination of women. The Collective explained this politely to the Rector by an official email, however the Rector did not respond and the ban is still in force. Members of the Collective have witnessed the beadle of the University Student House, picking up the newspapers - placed in the hallway to be taken for free - to be taken for free and dumping them as soon as she notices them. They are being dumped whenever they are placed.

The Collective believes that the explanation given by the Rector is a false excuse to hide the true reasons for the ban. We believe that political reasons are involved and that the banning also came in force when Catholic morality is being imposed on the people through other acts of censorship and legal oppression such as the ban of Stitching, the recent suspended prison sentence handed out to to an artist who displayed satirical visuals which included the Pope, and also the Catholic repression at the Nadur Carnival. These are all acts which indicate that Catholic oppression is increasing, similar to how Islamic fundamentalist states oppress their people by banning critical art and literature. However the dumping of our newspapers is analogical with the Burning of the Books during the Nazi era in Germany.

The Realta' Collective is a group of free-thinking individuals whose main objective is to publish the analytical and critical newspaper, called Ir-Realta'. Ir-Realta' is disseminated for free in many parts of Malta, including University, stationeries and art establishments. The newspaper contains well researched and articulated content, satire and art. It stands out from leading newspapers with its hard-punch critique and modern art by local artists and thus, it does not go down well with the conservative elements of the country.

What a pity to have to put up

What a pity to have to put up with such fools who impose their personal morals and religious views on others. Everyone is entitled to freedom of speech. People need to express themselves. There is too much oppression going on. Where is the democracy on the island? University students should have the choice to read whatever they like! The students should protest!
